In digging through a rather unorganized pile of family photos yesterday I uncovered this.
It required a lot of scratch and dust removal, but turned out great. Such a lovely photo of my mom.
I've put together another iPhoto book for my Dad, this time using photos from the 1950s and 60s. I'm really pleased with how it came together. I thought it would lift his spirits to have a sequel.
I helped organize a weekly knitting circle at work, which has turned out to be a lot of fun. My colleague Jill and I are helping to teach some non-knitters to knit and we also bring in some "inspirational" materials - a pattern book, a completed project, etc. Last week the topic turned to baby sweaters, so this week I brought in a few of the sweaters my mom knitted for my brother and I when we were small. I haven't looked at these in years and the workmanship is amazing - so many tiny, tiny even stitches. My mom was an amazing knitter and it was fun to get out some of her "earlier work."
Today, my mom would have been 76. Each year Drake and I celebrate this day by having her birthday dinner. My mom always wanted the same thing every year: hamburgers on the grill, fresh tomatoes from the garden, and corn on the cob (which we bought at Anton's Fruit Ranch). Our tomatoes are still tiny and green, and it's 2,094 miles to get corn at the Fruit Ranch, so we'll get those items at our market locally.
Funny thing about the Fruit Ranch. I loved going there as a kid. It's a bit more upscale now, but back then it was more ranch-y feeling. When I was in high school, the Antons moved right next door. I felt like we had real celebrities as our neighbors!
