...that I don't have to do this commute every day. Right now I'm just doing it two days a week, for meetings with a client in the East Side 'burbs.
Today it wasn't the 2 1/2 hour saga I suffered two weeks ago, but it was:
1) minus any lunch -- my 3hr. meeting started at noon and oddly no lunch was provided, even though the meeting invite indicated it would be and
2) minus any air-conditioning (the car's AC was only blowing hot air).
Also, our next car will be an automatic transmission. I otherwise much prefer a stick, but in stop-n-go it's not so handy. We keep our vehicles almost forever (the car's a '94, but has just has 50K miles on it) so there no new car in our immediate future. But for the next one I'll capitulate to an automatic.
Yesterday, I had a client meeting on the East Side (across Lake Washington) from 3-5 in the afternoon.
It took me 35 minutes to get there from downtown.
Getting back, starting out shortly after 5:00pm, the same distance took me 2 1/2 hours. There was no accident, no stalled cars, no construction, just a complete parking lot of cars.
I was 1 1/2 hours late to my 2-hour knitting class, though I did have the opportunity knit during the approximately 35 minutes I was at a complete standstill in traffic. Glad I had my knitting bag with me.
Fortunately, I only occasionally have to endure the East Side commute (only when I'm working with an East Side client and then only for meetings). My previous record for a East Side commute was 1 1/2 hours, so yesterday I bested that by a full hour.
I am completely mystified as to what the trouble was. The radio reported accidents elsewhere, but not on 520. There was a Seattle Mariners game downtown starting at 7:00, so that undoubtedly was a factor... but really, 2 1/2 hours?!
