In case it isn't obvious from my recent posts, I've been busy scanning in family photographs. Right now I'm working on photos mostly from the 50s and 60s.
What strikes me is how lovely the women look, when dresses were de rigueur . It makes me want to run out and buy a dress!
People did look more put together back then! Dresses are awesome. Just think how easy they are! No matching, just a single piece, and you pick out accessories for them. I bet they spent quite a long time getting ready though. Their hairstyles look high maintenance.
Reese - yes the hairdos were high-maintenance. My mom use to set her hair in curlers. I loved watching her roll her hair up and then comb it out after it was dry.
What glam babes! I still remember the 4th of July we went to your house and our moms were wearing the same dress. Do you remember that? It was a shift style with a white background and had large flowers on it-more at the bottom and fewer at the top. They both just laughed.
Funny story about the 4th of July - actually, I don't remember that. Maybe I was too young?
My mom also had a brown-and-white dress that shortly after she purchased it showed up in a Folgers Coffee TV commercial - on Mrs. Olsen. My mom was mortified - and wound up never wearing the dress again. But the commercial ran forever so I wound up seeing a lot of that dress - on Mrs. Olsen!
