My niece Jess turned 16 on Monday. This morning, this from my brother-in-law:

Just watched my daughter and son leave for school this morning. Not so unusual, but Jess was driving her car, with just Matthew. Good..... yes. Bad......... maybe.

Getting older every day. Me. Them. Everyone. Good..... yes. Bad........ maybe.

Time goes on...... It's not good or bad. It just is.

I think with respect to his kids, he's of course happy to see them grow up. That in essence is his job as a parent, to raise the kids to be mature, responsible adults.

But, the future of course is always unknown. That can be bad... maybe. As a parent he also worries about the future. Will Jess be OK driving? How will she handle this new-found freedom? In fact, how will we all handle what the future has in store for us?
