The salmon has landed
It's Copper River Salmon season here in the Pacific Northwest. The first-of-the-season fish are arriving this week in grocery stores. We usually wait to buy until after the first week, when prices go down a bit.
It used to be that two neighborhood groceries would battle it out each year to be the first to have Copper River in their store. This "arms race" got increasingly expensive, so a couple of years ago they called a truce. Now, both stores are owned and operated by the same company, after one of the stores went bankrupt.
The season is in May and June, and so we will be enjoying many dinners of fresh salmon and local asparagus.
