In the neighborhood yesterday...
...was this:
Drake saw it parked at the grocery and talked to the gal driving it. She apparently won it in a contest. It's 100% electric.
It's a cute, little bizzaro-world smart fortwo with decent acceleration - for a car with a 25 mph top-speed - and decent handling, in that it won't tip over and it has a tight turning circle. Range is 35 to 45 miles, and top speed is about 25 mph. The Kurrent NV (neighborhood vehicle) uses maintenance-free lead-gel batteries and is available with extended-range batteries. It comes with a lockable trunk, glass doors with manual or power windows and 13-inch cast aluminum wheels with optional snow tires.
It's legal to drive on roads with a speed limit under 35mph. Which, living just north of downtown, is a lot of the driving we do on a daily basis. We could quite easily have something like this as our second car.
