I shouldn't love them but I do

So that's what the sonic boom was about this afternoon! Patrick and I were arguing about whether our reprieve was over and we'd finally been tracked down by a squadron from Miramar (the Marines' air base in San Diego, in the neighborhood of which we lived until a couple of months ago). As much as I do like airshows, it's nice to hear the sound effects are only temporary.

I used to ride 747s all the time as a child and thought all planes were that large and beautiful. Will you go see the show? They put on quite a nice one!

@Maggy: Sometimes at work, we call a company that's located in SD and you can hear the sonic boom right through the phone! Hahaha...

... and the Blue Angels just flew right over my house in Bellevue just now. OK, loud or not loud, I have to admit that was cool.

Reesie: I quit using the phone when I lived there. It was always "Hi, how are you? Wait, just a sec... jet. [Pause] OK, now what were you saying? Wait, wait... helicopter." You tend to get used to it for the most part, except when you're trying to talk to somebody. I like this much, much better :-)

Well, unfortunately I am in a bit of a crunch this weekend, between having to work and also do some final planning & prep for the big family shindig in Wisconsin next weekend. So, I won't get a chance to see the Angels this year. They do fly over our place, too - so if I get to the window quick enough I get to see them.

Three years ago at Fleet Day here in San Francisco, I was out in the bay on a sailboat during the Angels' show. It was the GREATEST. They're a bit careful near shore, where most of the people are, but they're not careful at all around us mariners! So we got buzzed close enough that we could see the pilot, more than once. It's so amazing... when they're coming right at you, you hear almost nothing. The moment they pass, it's earsplitting, and as you turn to look, all you see is a red glow, already far in the distance and getting smaller. Absolutely awesome.
