End of the line
We reached it last night at Seatac, after 3 hours in security, missing our original flight, and then another 7 hours on standby. Northwest is unable to get us on a flight this weekend, and there are no reasonable options on other airlines. I called family at the cottage this morning, letting them know we were not going to make it. Drake and I are exhausted. Today our task is to go back to the airport to get our luggage when it returns from Minneapolis. And figure out maybe a little something to do this weekend. The scene at the airport yesterday was just unbelievable.

It sucks that the security issue came at the same time as your family reunion! I'm sure your family understand though. The airports are crazy.
I'm so sorry this happened at such an incredibly wrong time for you. Wow :(
Oh man! I'm so sorry about this! Bill's flying to Vegas for a business trip this weekend, and I'm worried about all the crap and delays for him as well (he's afraid of flying to begin with, and now this happens!)
good lord. 3 hours. I'm sorry you are missing the events this weekend!
For us, it turned into perfect storm. Because we had a morning flight and events developed overnight, we didn't hear about the increased security until we got up - too late to get to the airport early enough to account for the security delays. Folks with later flights had due warning and could plan accordingly - and most made their flights. Being a peak summer weekend, it was impossible to get on another flight. We were actually #29 and #30 on the standby list to MSP (there were over 200 on the list), but we didn't even get close - the flights were already overbooked with confirmed passengers. If we had be willing to pay an extra $800+ dollars (!) we could have taken a flight on a different airline the next day. But, we would have had to be at the airport at 4:00am the next morning to ensure we made that. Anything else (still very costly) pushed us into a Saturday arrival - and with the drive to the cottage it would have been Saturday night - and most folks were leaving on Sunday.
Family has been very sympathetic and understanding. It was just a complete freak event. I am just thankful that caught the plot when they did.
