Dad, 1964
This is my Dad at the family lake cottage near New Auburn, WI. He's coming up from the lake after fishing. Notice the hat. I remember my Dad's hats so clearly growing up -- how he always had one on when we would rush to greet him each evening when he came home from work.
We talked to him today and he is in excellent spirits going into chemotherapy, which he starts on Tuesday. He is still very weak, however, and spending most of his time in bed. He had been troubled by bone pain but the past couple of days that seems to have subsided. Aside from being weak and unable to concentrate on much, he otherwise feels OK. His appetite is back, but it doesn't sound like he's been able to gain much weight back. We'll be checking in again Wednesday, after his first treatment.

It is so hard being far away. I wish I had a more portable career - something I could easily take to a different city for a year or two. I am mulling over options to spend more time in Chicago, but am waiting to see how my Dad handles the chemo before thinking through any specific plans.
