Beethoven and the Piccolo

Comments

I rented a trumpet yesterday. Latest in a long line of instruments that I'll play terribly. It's a pleasant challenge to learn them, take lessons, and focus on something that is not work at all. Maybe one day I'll get to piccolo...
Usually piccolo players are the most peaceful and friendliest looking people in the orchestra. But, they make the most violent sound you can't possibly imagine especially in the pit.
So they end up not having any friends around them....

No, I was totally joking in Prarie Home Companion style...
Trumpet--wow, that sounds challenging. Good for you for taking music lessons. I've toyed with the idea from time to time, either going back to classical guitar (which I studied for years) or trying the cello. Both my parents studied music seriously as adults--my Dad practiced every morning for an hour before work.
I can only image what it sounds like from the stage/pit given how piercing it is from the audience. I noticed at least some of the players in the orchestra wear ear plugs, particularly the strings seated near the trumpets/trombones.
Earplugs are popular item on the stage... :)
