Adding insult to injury (literally)

Earlier this week, it was reported the Gerard Schwarz, Music Director of the Seattle Symphony, broke his leg skiing (he will continue to conduct with the help of a chair).

Today, the New York Times has not-so-flattering depiction of dysfunction within the Seattle Symphony--with a number of named sources leveling some pretty harsh criticism of Schwarz. Nothing in the NYT story, however, will be news to anyone in Seattle who's been following the symphony sturm und drang in the local press.

Still, no doubt a tough week for Maestro Schwarz.

Even though there have been several not so delightful stories about Seattle Symphony, it's one of my dream jobs...

Seattle is a wonderful city and the symphony hall is fantastic. I don't know what to think of Schwarz... I've worked in enough organizations to know that there are always people who take the negative perspective and who can't seem to move on from past "sins." I think he's made some big leadership mistakes, but then that player/conductor relationships are often strained (I am reading a book about Toscanini right now...but then he got away with abusive behavior because he was so revered artistically.)
